Like any great General, President Trump is leading his tariff-fueled charge to save America with a singular call: Hold the Line! Yet it is questionable whether or not Americans know, to the fullest extent, what this call can mean. It reeks of politics of the past, of Margaret Thatcher, Buckley and of Reagan, heroes all. Times when drastic times called for drastic measures. Times when the public at large wanted economic revolution without going into economic warfare. That thinking is simply a pie without the crust. Mere fruit, suitable for only toddlers and the aged.
Real economic policy calls for stiff changes, radical ideas, and in the case of the United States, strong tariffs. With his 90-day reprieve, the 45th and 47th President of this great nation, gives conservatives and liberals alike the chance to embrace the “strong medicine” the country needs. It begs the question from all of the doomsday preppers and economic theorists alike if today is actually that day. Is today the day we as Americans will realize that runaway spending, past dissolution of our national borders, and lazze-faire work ethics must cease? Furthermore, does the average American understand his role in the American economy today?
President Trump has done a great service for this nation once again with his hard line on our position globally. Some might argue he is playing a risky game with our livelihoods, but this risk is not only measured, it is warranted. As we consider the vast millions of entry-level and manufacturing jobs sent overseas for now decades, the dilapidated condition of industries we built here in America, and the blatant theft of our internal property from communist regimes, are we ready to stand wholeheartedly with our elected leader to see this storm through. There are many of faith who seek temperance in Washington and still others that wil cry, “Full steam ahead.” In either instance, it is the personal decisions every consumer must make that supports or undermines the President’s agenda.
As Americans, we must return to personal economic reforms that frankly, fly in the face of our runaway consumerism...in the face of our need for comfort and convenience without interference. Call me anti-utopian, but that won’t work. We must insist on buying American as well as employing American. We must forgo our European vacations temporarily for homespun enjoyment at one of our own national parks. We must take this opportunity to shore up our own resources to weather the economic crisis constructed under Biden without worrying what Trump is doing. This we must accomplish with the knowledge that it may get worse before it gets better- knowing full well that it will get better. Does this mean publicly supporting President Trump’s economic policies? Of course, it does. But it also means one better - advancing those policies in our own sphere of influence rather than sitting back and letting him take the heat for decisions aimed at fattening our own wallets long-term. Let us not forget, Donald Trump does not need us more than we need him.
This is not a time to shrink back like a wilted flower, congratulating ourselves on the November victory and assuming the job is done. The work is far from over and as many strategists concur, it has only just begun. This whirlwind America might be on is discussed on morning talk shows and social media daily. Yet the voice missing from the conversation is that of the fiscal conservative who says a resounding yes and Amen to tariffs. Yes, and Amen to demanding the deportation and rehousing of criminal and other aliens despite the heartbreak we often feel for children caught in the crossfire. Yes, and amen to the tough choices each family will have to make. Frankly, we must make these consolations with joy in our hearts knowing full well it is victory or death to America. We must not entertain with frivolity the thought that we do not play a part in this resurrection of the American economy nor can we assume our role to be insignificant. Every dollar spent or saved is crucial. While the figures might astound some, it must be with singleness of heart we rally around the campfires to ensure the American light does not burn out.
