Verizon Wireless is seeking a "Special Use Permit" to allow an 80-foot cell tower, disguised as a fake pine tree.

The location is behind Wilson Creek Elementary School.

We wrote about this application nearly 10 months ago. Shortly after, the applicant requested a deferral. They have lowered the height 30 feet.

There is no technological advantage to a monopine over a standard cell tower.

The public hearing and Council vote is Monday, January 23rd 7pm.

Will there be any discussion about limiting the collection of "Personal Real Time Data" of the general public which Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint sells to the Billboard Companies? The LED Billboards will NOT be profitable WITHOUT the "REAL TIME DATA." This begs the question, who owns this data? Why isn't this being put to a vote to the citizens, since it is OUR DATA being harvested and sold for profit? Sound like a violation of the 4th Amendment....no? Johns Creek loves to post how we are the safest city in GA, how about protecting our personal data? Gov. Deal in his speech last week for the beginning of the Legislative Session spoke about the need for CyberSecurity.

Cybersecurity Technology: Gov. Deal also unveiled plans for the development of the Georgia Cyber Innovation and Training Center, a $50 million state-owned facility. Working in conjunction with the Department of Defense and the National Security Agency, this center will be instrumental in teaching and preparing students to combat cyber-attacks. The facility will also house a cybercrime lab operated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Georgia will be at the forefront of our nation's effort to both prevent and fight cyber-attacks.

If we want to continue to hold the #1 Safest City position in the state, we need to address this TODAY. The city controls locally the access to our personal "Real Time Data" do you want a say in this? You don't hear any discussion about this.....do you?
