The U. S. House Ethics Committee confirmed it reviewing a complaint against U.S. Rep. Mike Collins and Brandon Phillips, his chief of staff.
The Committee was careful to note that the release of the existence of an investigation related to complaint(s) does not indicate a finding of any specific violation.
Some sources indicate one question may include allegations of possible mis-use of funding related to a girl-friend of Brandon Phillips - Collns' Chief of Staff.
Brandon Phillips has previously been the subject of several serious inquiries in Georgia.
In 2012, a complaint was entered against Brandan Phillips with the Georgia State Election Board alleging that he did not live in the second district even though he had a voter registration there and owned a property in the district.
During the investigation, a home was pictured which appeared abandoned with broken windows, no electricity, and unkempt yard.
In 2016 Phillips resigned from the Trump campaign after pleading guilty to criminal trespassing charges as reported by WBS-TV Atlanta:
"ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News has learned that Donald Trump's Georgia campaign executive director has resigned.
"Today we accepted the resignation of the Trump-Pence campaign's Georgia State Director Brandon Phillips. Billy Kirkland, our Georgia Senior Advisor, will continue to lead the campaign's operations in Georgia." said Jason Miller, Senior Communications Advisor, Donald J. Trump for President
Channel 2 Action News has also learned that Phillips pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing charges."
Phillips was again arrested in 2022 for allegedly kicking and injurying a dog, as reported by Politico:
"A veteran Georgia Republican operative who is slated to be chief of staff for incoming Rep. Mike Collins was arrested last month for allegedly kicking a dog.
Brandon Phillips was arrested on Nov. 17 on a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty and held on a $1,200 bond, which he posted to get released, according to a booking report. In 2016, Phillips resigned as Donald Trump’s Georgia state director after his prior criminal history was revealed."
The dog in the above matter was reported as having suffered an open belly wound as a result of the incident.
