Fox 5 (Atlanta) reported that a former Army sniper with mental health issues, Daniel Olson, died in a shoot-out with police in Coweta County, southwest of Atlanta.
Coweta County District Attorney Herb Cranford wrote to Fox 5, "Olsen was an Army Sniper who served 10 years and was medically retired after being injured by a hand grenade that caused traumatic brain injury."
Cranford told Fox 5 that he previously prosecuted Olsen in 2019 for a violent road rage incident. Olson was given probation.
"It appears that his mental health condition resulting from his military service played some part in the events that resulted in his death," added Cranford. "It is tragic that prior efforts to help him by our office and others apparently did not work."
