Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has endorsed Republican Congressman Mike Collins in the state's U.S. Senate race, throwing his support behind Collins with less than two months until Election Day.
"Mike Collins and I share a commitment to making Georgia an even better place to live, work, and raise a family," Kemp said in a statement Monday. "I'm proud to endorse Mike Collins for the U.S. Senate, and I know he'll always put Georgia first."
Collins, the son of former Congressman Mac Collins, is challenging Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff this November. Ossoff has held the seat since 2021.
The endorsement comes after a contested Republican primary. Kemp had previously backed Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, Collins' opponent in the GOP primary. After Collins won the nomination in June, Kemp also endorsed Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson shortly after Jackson secured the Republican nomination.
Collins currently serves as the U.S. Representative for Georgia's 10th Congressional District, a seat he has held since 2023. His father, Mac Collins, represented Georgia in Congress from 1993 to 2005.
The Georgia Senate race is among the most closely watched contests in the country ahead of the November midterms. Ossoff has led in recent statewide polling, and The Georgia Record has documented over $100 million in smurfed contributions; in other words, illegal campaign finance money laundering.
Collins has faced scrutiny over a House ethics investigation and allegations regarding past associations. Collins has pushed back on those characterizations and framed the race as a fight against what he called the far-left agenda.
"I'm grateful to have him standing with me to take back Georgia's Senate seat, stand up to the far-left agenda, and defeat Jon Ossoff this November," Collins said in response to the endorsement.
