Orange Crush is an annual spring break event held on Tybee Island, Georgia, that originated in 1988 as a gathering organized by students from Savannah State University, a historically Black college. It takes place on Tybee Island, near Savannah, and has grown into a large, often unofficial gathering attracting thousands of people—mostly college students—for parties, music, and beach fun. The 2025 iteration of Orange Crush marked a shift toward a more structured and collaborative approach between organizers and local authorities, aiming to preserve the cultural significance of the event while addressing past safety and logistical issues.
Freaknik in Savannah refers to modern, localized events inspired by the now-defunct Atlanta phenomenon, rather than the original mass gathering that ended in the late 1990s. Recent iterations, such as FreakNik '23, have been held in Statesboro and Savannah, featuring club parties, beach gatherings, and vendor tables, often targeting the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) demographic.
