Earlier this month, WJXT TV news (Jacksonville, FL) reported that residents of Kingsland, GA, were prepared to fight the proposal of a data center at a hearing at the city hall.
However, the applicant pulled two items on the small city government's agenda before the scheduled hearing.
Kingsland is just north of the Florida border along I-95.
"This is going to affect the Navy base, ecosystem, our wildlife, our already depleted water resources," said one resident. "It's going to increase our water and electric [costs], potentially even our taxes."
"There's just no good coming from it," she added.
The Kingsland City Council is currently reviewing its rules for data centers, amending their first set of rules put forth just two months ago.
Concurrently, over the GA-FL line in Nassau County, north of Jacksonville, residents are lobbying to leaders for a moratorium on data center facilities.
