The biggest Charter issue and the issue most frequently mentioned charter issue at Council meetings by residents is the failure of the City Council to fill the two empty vacancies.

Mr. Broadbent, however, finds another issue, which is not even on the radar of the public.

Could we please get a Council whose priorities are aligned with the best interests of the public?

Mr. Boradbent, do you feel it was an error to not call for special elections to fill the two seats vacated by Raffesberger and Stewart?

How will you vote in the future if there is a need for a special election to fill a vacancy?

    Dumbfounded!

@ Arun Misra- You are joking. Right? Bring poor people to JC? Will you also be an advocate for adding more policemen?
Most residents of JC moved to JC to surround themselves with folks of like mind; accomplished, hard working, successful ... Many wanting to raise their families in a low crime community.
What you propose (your charter) would change the culture and flavor of our city to its detriment.
If you want to live among the 'poor' why don't you move to a different area within the Atl metro. Perhaps run for council there? That would be a much better fit for the ideas you expressed here.
Greyhound buses to JC? MARTA to JC. Really?
And just what "city center" are you referring to?

At the time I returned this questionnaire I had not had a chance to fully look at the charter, I would say now I have two immediate points that require attention:
1.- The "at large" districts do not offer proper geographic representation that would ensure appropriate representation in the Council.
2.- I would immediately cap the contributions candidates receive, spending amounts of money in the order of 100K seems irresponsible, frankly why not donate this money to the city and pave a small subdivision? Putting a cap would immediately level the playing field among candidates and we would be elected on how we carefully spend the money. We could then be evaluated in real time by the voters to see how responsible we are.

    Mr. Carbonell,

#2 will never be a law anywhere. Nor will anyone be donating money to the City for paving.

Voluntarily, as a candidate, you can make that happen, and call out other candidates who are spending large volumes of money. Will you do so?

    #1 Can't agree more.

Would you please comment on other charter issues that have been raised now that you have had a chance to "fully look at the charter?"

    Thank you.

Wally, my "campaign," which consists of simply going knocking one door at a time, has only spent to this day less than two thousand dollars, and that's a figure I'm comfortable in keeping.
As far as other issues that have been touched here, I am in full agreement of giving the people the power to vote on expenditures that surpass particular amounts of money, I think it is the transparent and responsible thing to do.
Let's talk about elections, I think the seats should have been filled at the earliest opportunity and not have waited until now to do so. There needs to be a faster mechanism to accelerate this process to let the Council work properly at its full capacity.
    Thank you.

    Wally

Thank you for replying. I believe the Charter already stated what needed to be done to fill the seats. It was the choice of this council to leave the seats empty.

It's also good to read some candidates are trying to earn votes rather than buy them.

    We need more of that.
