The Georgia Freedom Caucus has issued a warning and Call to Action asking Georgians to help defend our First Amendment Right to Free Speech in the face of pending legislation meant to stifle those who would expose Truths.

The Georgia Senate is set to take up the House substitute to SB 9, a bill that is no longer what originally passed the Senate. It has been stripped and transformed into a dangerous speech-policing scheme. The current version would criminalize certain political images, videos, or memes within 90 days of an election if the government decides they are “materially deceptive.” That puts bureaucrats and prosecutors in charge of deciding what political speech is legal and what could result in fines or jail time. We already have defamation laws to deal with real lies. This goes far beyond that.
This bill mirrors a California law signed by Gavin Newsom that was so extreme a federal judge threw it out for violating the First Amendment. There is a constitutional way to address deepfakes: civil remedies targeting impersonation done with actual malice. Criminalizing political speech is not narrowly tailored; it is a weapon. Once government has that power, it will be abused. Georgia should not follow California down the road of censoring political expression.
Contact your State Senator and Lt. Governor Burt Jones and say:
“Please ensure that SB 9, Gavin Newsom’s anti-free speech deepfake law, which he wants to use to arrest Elon Musk, never becomes law in Georgia. Please do everything you can to prevent it from becoming law.”
If you feel inclined, add:
“Defamation law already exists and adequately prevents people malicious lies. Before our state starts locking people up for political speech, let’s ensure that deepfakes are actionable like defamatory statements already are.”

While SB 9 goes far beyond just Truth regarding Georgia's Elections, it is notable now that so much of what we have been told by Secretary of State Raffensperger is being called to task for deliberately hiding or mis-representing the accuracy of our Voter Rolls and therefore the veracity of Georgia's Elections.
In budget hearings this week, Senator Greg Dolezal pressed Brad Raffensperger on his refusal to move away from Dominion voting machines, despite DHS stating that they contain serious vulnerabilities.
Raffensperger has been the chief defender of the Dominion machines and their software for years now. He claims he does not have enough money (in his $60 million budget for FY25) to move away from this software. Yet he has never asked for more money on this front, he’s just looking for his newest excuse.
We can do so much better than Brad Raffensperger.
