Haiti is well-known as a trafficking node coming into North America. This includes human, organ, and child sex trafficking. Haitians have no business having a permanent ride into the United States.
On January 12, 2010, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti near Port-au-Prince, killing over 300,000 people, injuring hundreds of thousands more, displacing about 1.5 million (roughly 15% of the population), and destroying much of the country's infrastructure, government buildings, and basic services.
Just days later (announced January 15, effective January 21, 2010), the Obama administration's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano designated Haiti for TPS for 18 months. This applied to Haitian nationals who were already physically present in the U.S. as of January 12, 2010.
The legal basis was "extraordinary and temporary conditions" from the environmental disaster, which prevented safe return and disrupted living conditions substantially. The U.S. government determined that deporting people to a country without functioning services would not be safe, and it was not contrary to the national interest.
The earthquake was 16 years ago.
Why is Congressman Rich McCormick voting to extend their 'temporary' status then?
Why did he join with Democrats and other RINOs in this vote?
We at CDM/The Georgia Record believe McCormick is working for someone else, and it's not the good people of GA-7. This vote comes on the heels of McCormick pushing for U.S. ground troop involvement in the Iran war, which could lead to thousands of American deaths.
As we said before, Rich McCormick should do the honorable thing and resign.
More to come soon on Haiti, and this travesty of America last.
