Last week, multiple TV news outlets in New Orleans, the Florida panhandle, and in the Chapel Hill, NC area reported that a former Chapel Hill, NC policeman was arrested, suspected of plotting a mass shooting at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.

The man was arrested at a Hampton Inn & Suites in Destin, Florida where he was staying, about a 4-hour drive from New Orleans. In his room, police allegedly found a handgun and about 200 rounds of ammunition.

The three-state law enforcement operation began after a family member called Okaloosa County (Destin area) police requesting some sort of "wellness check".

According to the WWLTV (New Orleans) news presenter, "Court records for [the suspect's] case are marked confidential. The court clerk told WWLTV that this indicates it is a mental health case."

It is assumed that the man drove north-to-south through Georgia from NC to FL. Exactly when is not yet known.

At the time of reporting the former policeman was being held in a Destin area jail, to be extradited to Louisiana to face state charges there.

The announcement came on the day of a mass shooting at a mall in Baton Rouge, a 90-minute drive from New Orleans.

The Georgia Record was relaunched in June of 2021 and has been extremely successful fighting corruption in the state named after King George of England. The original paper was started in 1899 and published into the early 20th century. In 2020, CDM (Creative Destruction Media) acquired Johns Creek Post and brought back The Georgia Record to better represent the state rather than just Johns Creek News.
