The AJC today disclosed that Gov. Brian Kemp is helping sponsor an event in mid-August which will host Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former V.P. Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott, former Ambassador Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and former N.J. Gov. Chris Christie, along with a group of other officials.
Notably absent from the list of attendees is the republican frontrunner: President Donald J. Trump.
Kemp will also speak at the event.
It appears these six invited candidates do indeed need the exposure, since some polls show only DeSantis measuring support in double-digits:
Given these numbers, one marvels at other publications characterizing the above group as six "top contenders" in the Republican nomination race.
The announcement comes amid reports of barricades being erected in preparation for potential indictments selected from the slate of alternate electors chosen following the contested 2020 election. Many have questioned why alternative electors would be in jeorpardy of any charges since they were lawfully appointed to represent their party in the midst of a contested election.
South Fulton D.A. Fani Willis is also expected to attempt indictment of President Trump in August. This move has been anticipated following the previous charges brought in New York and Florida. Charges which many say are cobbled together in an effort to keep Trump from winning the 2024 election.
