This past Saturday, April 26th, Districts across Georgia held their District GOP Conventions.
During those conventions, Delegates elected by their respective Counties selected new leaders for positions on the District Executive Committee, State Committee (members who will represent the District during GOP State Committee meetings), and "at-Large" District Committee members who work with the District Executive Committee in governing the business of each District.
The process includes vetting, review and recommendations by Nominations Committees chosen by each District to consider applications submitted by those seeking to be nominated for the various positions within the three groups mentioned above.
Members of the 11th District, who attended their District Convention report that although past Cobb County GOP Chairman, Salleigh Grubbs, took steps to seek Nomination for a position on the State Committee, the members of the Nomination Committee chose not to place Salleigh Grubbs' name on their list of Nominees.
Some suggest that this may be, in part, a result of the election patterns experienced in Cobb County during the November 5, 2024 elections.
A key goal was to secure growth in the overall number of Republican votes for President Trump (and other Republican candidates) than seen in 2020.
Unlike the vast majority of Georgia Counties, Cobb County actually had MORE growth in Democratic votes than in Republican votes between 2020 and 2024. I.E. The Democratic vote total grew TWICE as much as the Republican vote total between 2020 and 2024. Some refer to this as Cobb turning more "blue."
The Georgia Record published an article describing this and readers may review that article by clicking on the article listing below:
Whether the election result explains the Nomination Committee's choice to bypass Grubbs isn't known. Members reinforce that Nominations Committees are charged with vetting candidates and putting forth those candidates who they believe can best represent the interests of that District in roles at the District as well as State levels.
The Georgia Record will continue to monitor developments as further dynamics are reported.
