In addition to conservatives, some classic liberals that dare to speak out against far left initiatives are facing violence and death threats and requiring security for events. Such was the case this past weekend with the Genspect conference held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Genspect is an international organization "critical of the gender-affirmative approach and advise[s] health care professionals to take the time and care to evaluate the low-evidence base for the current affirmative approach".
"We seek a healthy approach to sex and gender," is written on their website.
"We employed a security team to conduct bag searches for all attendees and the team used security wands to ensure no guns were brought in,” said Stella O’Malley, Executive Director and Founder of the Genspect organization. “We also implemented a five-stage security system and selected our venue with particular attention to defensive security considerations.”
The conference, entitled "The bigger picture; Live not by lies— Conversations for a culture in crisis” was held in an undisclosed location, even to attendees who weren't alerted to the location until shortly before the start of the conference.
A number of high-profile figures in the news attended the conference, including Beth Bourne from northern California, recently featured on Fox News and in the Daily Mail, "stripping for justice", protesting boys in girls changing rooms at a government meeting.
Graham Linehan was among several speakers at the event. He was arrested at a London airport for tweets critical of trans gender ideology earlier this month.
"It’s astonishing that a conference consisting of eminent academics , psychologists, lawyers and philosophers is perceived not as mere critics, but as existential threats to a prevailing ideology." added O'Malley. "When violent threats are normalized and security is a necessity, free discourse becomes hostage to fear."
"Our security expenditure was unreasonably high as a consequence of these fears. If speaking truth requires bodyguards, then the battlefield of ideas has already shifted to a world where force, not logic, rules," said O'Malley.
From Georgia, veteran gay advocate Jeff Cleghorn attended the event. He spoke out against TQ ideology in the Georgia state house in February 2024. His testimony was mentioned across the US and Canada via an Associated Press article.
"I became a gay rights advocate in 1993, and I have since attended over a dozen large legal and political activist gatherings all over the country," said Cleghorn. "Never once did attendees need to undergo name and bag and metal detector security checks, with single-entry-access-only and seven security guards stationed at the entrance way."
"Our political enemies— real or perceived— never before threatened to kill us for our beliefs," added Cleghorn. "Now they do."
"This past weekend, at the Genspect conference in Albuquerque, that ALL CHANGED." continued Cleghorn. "This is because of threats and recent acts of violence by deranged transqueer activists angry about Genspect's protecting children from them. They are on the wrong side of history."
